Undergraduate English Proficiency Information

English proficiency can be met by one of the following:

1. Attended high school for at least 3 years, completed a university degree, or completed at least 12 undergraduate/9 graduate university credits in one of the following English-Speaking countries:

* School transcripts must show English as the only language of instruction

2. Attended high school or university in a country not listed above where English was the sole language of instruction.

Language of instruction letters must be sent directly by the school administration to Dr. Sharon Simpson (Sharon.simpson@umhb.edu) to be considered. Please allow 1-2 weeks for her to review

3. Submit an English proficiency exam score

* Students who submit DET or PTE tests will have the results confirmed by ESL Accuplacer assessments and an interview on-campus.

Students who submit scores below their program requirements, but within the conditional minimums, will be conditionally accepted to the university. Upon arrival for orientation, conditionally accepted students will take the Accuplacer English exam for Ñ©ÀæÉçÇø faculty to determine if additional English ESOL courses will be required.

Ñ©ÀæÉçÇø does offer intermediate and advanced English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, we do not currently offer a full-time, beginner level intensive English language program. As such, a minimum English proficiency is required to receive admission to Ñ©ÀæÉçÇø. Ñ©ÀæÉçÇø is not a language institute and therefore cannot admit F-1 students who wish to enroll solely in English language classes.
