When people hear the word accountant, they often picture someone sitting alone in a dimly lit office, buried in spreadsheets and calculators. But step into the accounting department at Ñ©ÀæÉçÇø, and that stereotype quickly disappears. Here, laughter echoes through the hallways, and students crowd into professors’ offices to chat, grab snacks and swap stories. It’s a community full of energy and purpose – and at its core are three professors who make accounting fun, meaningful and grounded in faith.
“People might be surprised that we’re accountants,â€ said Dr. Vicky Johnson with a laugh. “We’re kind of loud, and we’re always laughing. We’re not what people picÂture when they think of accountants.â€
Johnson, along with Dr. Jerome Lockett and Dr. Lisa DeLuze ‘03, leads Ñ©ÀæÉçÇø’s accounting program, a tight-knit, thriving group of students who will one day serve as CPAs, auditors, entrepreneurs and servant-leaders. Together, the trio has built a program known not only for its academic rigor and professional success, but also for its joyful, student-centered approach that turns the “stuffy accountantâ€ myth upside down.
